NFTU (Notes From the Underground) is a volunteer online news reporting service which, since 2004, has dealt with news and information about True (Traditional) Orthodox jurisdictions throughout the world as well as reporting on Ecumenism, the most prevalent and dangerous condemned heresy of the 20th century.

Originally started in 2004 as a theoretical framework for the ROAC's official web site in America, it was eventually discarded for other designs. However, the templates found a new use: they were modified to form an unofficial ROAC news and information site with assistance and contributions from a number of writers and lay members of ROAC.

As time went on, the site's focus began to broaden to other jurisdictions as well as schisms from ROAC: by 2006, for still unclear reasons, it was suggested by Bishop Andrei (Maklakov) of Pavlovskoye for the site to drop any connection to ROAC whatsoever and to focus on news about Ecumenism. It turned out this change was to be providential for NFTU.

Years after it was proclaimed that "the worst of ecumenism was over", we found dozens of things in weeks-- and hundreds of things in the years to come-- to report. Coupled with the freedom to focus on all True Orthodox jurisdictions, the site found a heavily broadening base in a virtual vacuum in North America: most news websites about True Orthodox Churches and Ecumenism a
re found in other countries and languages. Consequently, NFTU has become the one of the largest news websites in North America dealing with events related to True Orthodoxy and Ecumenism, and has become the "fair and balanced" voice of traditional Orthodox reportage. We've also managed to do this largely without accusations of a "partisan bias", since this site is not sponsored by any jurisdiction and supports all of those Orthodox who "stand apart" from Ecumenism and Sergianism. (Full Disclosure: the general editor has also not been a member of ROAC since mid-2006, though respects those who are members of that jurisdiction, and he and his family under the jurisdiction Archbishop John of New York and New Jersey-- Holy Synod of Milan.)

Because of this form
of reporting and perspective, NFTU has its share of fans and detractors. We add new volunteers to our team as often as they come and we will soon use this page to list the people who made this site what it is. But as the site changes and as technologies change, the hope of the site's editors remain the same: that the Gospel of Our Lord God and Saviour, Jesus Christ, be preached among the nations before the end.

And as
the Church keeps proclaiming the Gospel, and as long as the gates of hell try to prevail against the Church, we'll be writing. Thanks for visiting.

In Christ,
Reader Joseph Suaiden,
General Editor
